Bobcats Drop Conference Opener to Bloomfield
BUFFALO, NY - The Bryant & Stratton College Buffalo women's basketball team opened NACIA conference play on Sunday afternoon but fell short in their league debut, dropping a 74–57 decision to Bloomfield at the Burt Flickinger Center.
The Bobcats (3-2, 0-1 NACIA) were unable to overcome a difficult shooting afternoon and a significant rebounding disadvantage, as Bloomfield used its size and physicality to control the interior throughout the contest. Buffalo shot 30.7% from the field and just 41.2% from the free-throw line, while Bloomfield amassed 65 rebounds, including an impressive 30 offensive boards, which created repeated second-chance opportunities.
Sophomore forward Chelsea Johnson led Bryant & Stratton with a strong double-double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Iyanna King delivered one of her most complete performances of the season, finishing with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals while logging 35 minutes of two-way play.
Junior point guard Jordyn Cooper-Best added 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, keeping the Bobcats competitive through stretches of the second and third quarters. Off the bench, junior guard Jaelyn Giles provided a spark with 8 points on efficient shooting.
Defensively, the Bobcats showcased toughness, recording 9 blocks—including 4 from freshman center Kortnee Smith, who also secured 10 rebounds. But despite the defensive effort, Bloomfield's balanced scoring and interior presence proved too much down the stretch. Bloomfield was led by Nia Mallette's 23 points and Anisha Able's 17-point, 14-rebound double-double.
The game remained within striking distance for much of the afternoon, but Bloomfield's free-throw shooting and second-chance execution helped the visitors pull away late.
Bryant & Stratton Buffalo will look to regroup quickly as NACIA play continues in the coming weeks, aiming to bounce back and build momentum within their new conference slate.
