BUFFALO, NY - Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Women's Basketball Head Coach Brittnee Perry was looking for someone to add to her coaching staff who brought experience, knowledge and passion. She found someone that checked all her boxes as she announced on Thursday the addition of James Ewing to her staff for the 2020-21 season. Ewing comes to Bryant & Stratton Buffalo after a playing career at the University of Toledo (NCAA I) and Mercyhurst University (NCAA II).
"James is someone who I think will come in right away and have a tremendous impact on our players," Perry said. "I believe he is an open-minded coach who will really work well with myself and our current assistant Justin Stokes. I'm excited to work with him."
A graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School in 2008, Ewing was a three-year varsity starter and scored 1,442 points during his career. As a senior he led the team in scoring (21 points per game) and rebounding (13 rebounds per game) and was a First Team All-State. During his high school career he was a three time First Team All-Catholic, an Honorable Mention All-Western New York and a two-year team captain. Following O'Hara, Ewing played one year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida where he was also a team captain and averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Ewing began his college career at the University of Toledo where he was a two-year letterman and helped lead the Rockets to a Mid American Conference West Division Championship in 2013. He played his final two years at Mercryhurst University in Erie Pennsylvania where as a senior, he started all 20 games, shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and was the team's leading rebounder. As a team captain, he helped lead the University to it's first ever NCAA Tournament appearance following a 20-9 campaign.
Ewing then played professionally for the Buffalo 716ers of the Professional Basketball League (PBL) and the Dangriga Warriors and the Orange Walk Running Rebels of the National Elite Basketball League in Belize (NEBL). As a member of the Running Rebels, Ewing was named a starter in the league's All-Star Game and finished that season fourth in the league in scoring (16.6) and second in rebounding (11.9). He was named to the All-Belizean NEBL 2nd Team by Eurobasket. The following year he once again ranked fourth in the league in scoring (16.5) and first in minutes played (34.8).
Ewing joins a Bobcats program that finished the 2019-20 season (it's first ever) 22-7 and advanced to the National Final Four before the tournament was cut short due to the global pandemic. As a member of the staff, Ewing will be responsible for practice and game planning, player development and recruiting.
