Bryant & Stratton College is pleased to announce a new athletic program in Buffalo. Starting in September 2018, Bryant & Stratton College will launch a men's basketball program competing in Division I of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The USCAA was founded in 1966 as the National Little College Athletic Association (NLCAA). In 1974, Bryant & Stratton College's Buffalo team won the NLCAA Championship under the leadership of head coach Tom Griffin, brother of Jimmy Griffin, former mayor of Buffalo.
The College is proud to bring basketball back to Buffalo with a team led by Damone Brown as men's head basketball coach. Brown recently served as assistant coach for 3 seasons at Villa Maria College. As an assistant, Brown help guide Villa Maria to back to back trips to the national tournament, in 2017 making it to the Elite 8 and 2018 making it to the championship game.
Brown was a standout at Syracuse University from 1997-2001 before he was drafted in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. The Buffalo native played for the 76ers, Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets and Washington Wizards. He also had stints overseas and in the NBA Development League.
Standing 6-foot-9, Brown had an outstanding high school career at Seneca Vocational High School where he was a 1st Team Yale Cup member and Yale Cup Player of the Year. Brown received a degree in Informational Science and Technology from Syracuse University in 2001. As a senior, Brown was selected to the Big East 1st Team while leading the Orange in rebounding.
Along with coaching at Villa, Brown is the owner and founder of Damone Brown Pro Training, an organization helps people ages 6 to 50 build fundamental basketball skills. Brown has also served as an assistant coach at East High School in Buffalo. He currently lives in Buffalo with his two sons; Damone Brown Jr. and Da'Shaun Brown.
"We are thrilled to have a Buffalo native with such an impressive basketball resume to lead our team. Damone's passion for Western New York, basketball and providing another option for men looking to play basketball on a collegiate level locally, makes him the ideal coach" said Paul Bahr, Director of Western New York Campuses at Bryant & Stratton College.
Brown will launch an immediate local recruiting plan seeking potential student athletes to start competition in the fall of 2018. Bryant & Stratton College will offer athletic scholarships to qualified student athletes.
