BUFFALO, NY - Playing without three starters and with just seven healthy players, the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Bobcats fell 70-68 to the D'Youville Saints on Thursday night, snapping their four-game winning streak. Sophomore RaeQuan Scott led the Bobcats with 18 points but the shorthanded roster was too much to overcome as Buffalo fell to 9-4 on the season while the Saints improved to 2-11.
The Bobcats were without their top three scorers in seniors Shyquinn Dix and Tyrell Mitchell, along with sophomore Eric Waters. The trio combine to score nearly 37 points per contest, something that was tough to make up for with only seven players. But Scott, along with three other double-figure scorers, fought until the end, ultimately succumbing to foul trouble and poor shooting down the stretch.
Junior Denzel Fuller scored a season-high 13 points and sophomore Davon Ware added 12. The Bobcats were out-rebounded by the Saints 51-38, who were paced by Trent Scott who scored a team-high 18. Junior Jaeger Martino notched a double-double for the saints, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds. After a sluggish first half, which saw the Bobcats lead by three, the offense slightly picked up in the second as the Saints edged the Bobcats 45-40 over the final 20 minutes.
Junior Deric Jackson was the fourth Bobcat in double-figures as he scored 10 points off the bench. Fellow junior Sam Dorissaint fell one point shy of a double-double off the bench, scoring 9 points and pulling down 12 boards.
Buffalo shot just 32.1 percent from the floor but did hold the Saints to just 33.9 percent. A large number of points came from the charity stripe as the game featured 52 fouls and 76 free throws. The Bobcats went 25-39 (64.1 percent) while the Saints went 27-37 (73 percent).
