BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Eric Waters scored a team-high 20 points to help lead the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Bobcats to an 86-78 home victory over Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon. Waters was one of four Bobcats in double-figures as a strong first half helped get B&SC Buffalo back in the win column and improve to 4-2 on the season.
Waters was an efficient 8-13 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line en route to his season-high. Sam Dorissaint scored 15 and Shyquinn Dix and Danny Turkvan each scored 13. The Bobcats shot 54.5 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the free throw line while holding the Golden Knights under 47 percent from the field.
Clarkson scored the first three points of the game and eventually raced out to an early 15-9 lead thanks in part to four made triples. B&SC Buffalo then went on a quick 11-0 run capped by a Dix jumper to take a 20-15 lead. They earned their first double-digit lead of the game with 4:51 remaining in the half when Turkvan put home a catch-and-shoot jumper off a nice feed from junior Deric Jackson. The Bobcats led by as many as 13 in the first half and took an 11-point, 47-36 lead into the break.
Midway through the second half, Jackson went coast-to-coast and hit on a nice pull-up 10 foot jumper from the right baseline to give the Bobcats a 64-51 lead with just under 11 minutes left. From there, Clarkson used a 15-4 run to close the gap to just two at 68-66 with just 5:01 left. Out of a timeout, Dix hit on two free throws before Waters stole a cross-court pass and took it to the other end, finishing a thunderous one-hand slam and the Bobcats were able to pull away from there.
The Bobcats got 21 points from their bench as sophomores Davon Ware and RaeQuan Scott scored nine and eight points respectively, and Jackson finished with four. Jackson hit on both of his field goal attempts and also added four boards and a steal.
Turkvan finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, securing eight boards to go along with his 13 points, two assists, one steal and one block. Waters added four rebounds, five steals and two blocks to go along with his 20 points. Dix also posted a loaded stat line, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Clarkson held a major advantage from beyond the arc, connecting on 11 threes to Buffalo's two. Each team finished with 31 rebounds while Buffalo was able to force 26 turnovers, leading directly to 28 points.
