Bobcats Set to Host Point Park on Saturday in Season Opener
The Bryant & Stratton College Buffalo Bobcats are set to kick off the 2020-21 season on Saturday when they host the Point Park University Pioneers at 1 p.m. The Bobcats - who are coming off back-to-back National Tournament appearances - enter their third season of competition after the program's resurrection in 2018.

PAW PRINTS
- The Bobcats return three players (one starter) from last year's team that finished 19-11 and made it's second straight appearance at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament as a five-seed. The tournament was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Senior Tyrell Mitchell is the lone starter to return. He was named a USCAA Second Team All-American for the second season in a row after averaging 16.4 points on nearly 62 percent shooting. In his two seasons with the Bobcats, he has helped the team amass 36 total wins.
- Jason Mixon and Davon Ware also return to the Bobcats. Mixon - a junior - came off the bench last season after transferring from Clinton College, and averaged 5.2 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent. Ware was named the team's Sixth-Man of the Year as a freshman, appearing 27 games and averaging 6.2 points and 2.4 assists while affecting many games with his defense.
- The 2020-21 squad features 14 new faces from four different states.
- The Bobcats averaged over 90 points per game last season, ranking them third in the USCAA. They also ranked in the top-five nationally in three point percentage (35.7), assists (20.7) and steals (11.7).
- The Bobcats announced their November schedule on Friday morning. They will play five games with three coming at home. After opening with Point Park, they will travel to NAIA perennial contender West Virginia Tech for a matchup on November 14th at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. They will then host Bryant & Stratton Rochester on the 17th before making a return trip to Pittsburgh to play the Pioneers once again. They'll close the month hosting Bryant & Stratton Albany on the 22nd. The remaining schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
NEWCOMERS
- The Bobcats have 14 new players on this year's roster and come from a plethora of states. They have incoming freshmen as well as transfers. Leading the way in the transfer way are a pair of players from Stamford, CT. Senior Shyquinn Dix comes to Bryant & Stratton Buffalo after spending the last two seasons at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He averaged 16.8 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 38.2 percent from three. Sophomore Sam Dorissaint grew up in the same city as Dix and is a power down low, adding size and strength to the Bobcats' front line. He last played at NHTI where he averaged 14.4 points and 6.5 rebounds. He is also a threat to score from the outside as he shot 43.4 percent from three as well.
- Another former NHTI player will be joining the Bobcats this season as well. Dorissaint's former teammate Deric Jackson begins his junior year with the Bobcats after averaging 15.7 points 6.9 rebounds with the Lynx. A strong physical guard will add scoring ability and overall leadership to the 2020-21 squad.
- The Bobcats would be remised if they didn't dip into the local talent. They added high-flying wing Eric Waters who is a former USCAA All-American. He averaged 16.7 points for the Villa Maria Vikings last under Hall-of-Fame coach, Don Silveri.
- Maurice Waters - unrelated - comes to the Bobcats from Philadelphia after last playing at Lincoln University. The 6-6 southpaw presents unique challenges for his opponents as his ability to score inside and out make him a tough matchup.
- A pair of Niagara Falls natives join Coach Brown's staff in Denzel Fuller and Daryl Haynes. Fuller - a 6-foot-6 combo - is an above-the-rim player who can also shoot it from long range. Haynes is a tough-minded, hard worker who can run the point and play off the ball.
- Zeke McMurtry joins the Bobcats from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The Jackson, MS native led the Bengals in scoring, putting home nearly 15 per game.
- After Jonathan Range departed after last season, a former junior college teammate of his has taken on the task of wearing number four. Jonathon Moody of Rochester, NY comes to Bryant & Stratton Buffalo after last playing at Finger Lakes Community College with former Bobcats Range and Jabari Hibbert. He is a crafty, defensive-minded point guard who is a natural born, fiery leader.
- Maurice Waters isn't the only player to come to the Bobcats from Philadelphia this year. Junior Yochua Diaz enters the program after last playing at Manor College where he averaged 7.7 points on 35.4 percent shooting from three.
- The Bobcats also added four freshman to this year's squad. Danny Turkvan, Da'Shaun Brown, Alan Suarez and Jonathan Phillips all join the program for their first look at college ball. Turkvan is a 6-5 forward who can score inside and also rebound at a high level. Brown, the son of the Bobcats' head coach, is a 6-8 rim protector who has really developed his offensive game over the last few years as well. Suarez was John F. Kennedy's leading scorer last year and has really come into this season making strides every day. Phillips played at Niagara Catholic and is a 6-4 forward who can rebound at a high level while also understanding the college game more every day.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- The Pioneers finished last season 15-16 and split the season series with the Bobcats with both home teams coming out victorious.
- They qualified for the River States Conference (RSC) postseason tournament but fell in the quarterfinals to (22) Indiana University Kokomo. The Pioneers did defeat USCAA number-one seed Florida National in Hialeah, FL.
- They return their top-six scorers from a year ago, including leading scorer Sherron Schifino who scored 13.5 points per game.
- The Pioneers play a tough non-conference schedule this season which features three games against NCAA I opponents (Robert Morris, Manhattan, Akron).
